Tenuous Magic Parts--opening reception

I could never accept life as it was,
I could never gobble down all of its poisons, but there were parts,
tenuous magic parts open for the asking. – Charles Bukowski

the king and I

some real exciting news came my way yesterday.

i recently shot an author's photo for the great Philadelphia
poet, CA Conrad for his book about Elvis.

the book is now available at GRACELAND! wow. as if the photo
opportunity wasn't enough. i now share real estate with the KING!

this is one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me.

please check out CA's work...he is a terrifically entertaining writer!

wrestle mania

so I was in new jersey last saturday for a funeral. i brought my camera and figured i'd drive around and get some shots before i headed back over the bridge.  the second stop i made was at the wrestling school in my mom's town. i have tried several times to get a photo of this building with it's glorious sign however there are always cars in front of it.

so i stop and shot one out my car window (can you say creepy?) and low and behold a big dude approaches me and asks me what I'm doing.

after several minutes of explaining and introductions are made, he invites me in to take photos inside. he says a match is going on. i was pressed for time but what' the answer to a question like that? the answer was yes. and so i spent the next hour and a half photographing amatuer wrestlers (and I mean WWF style). amazing. first try, but I'll be back with my new camera as soon as possible. I felt like such an imposter and so honored at the same time. it was really a great experience. it made me think outside of how i normally shoot and i loved the challenge.

beginning interiors

The start of picture taking at my Grandfather's home inevitably led me to take some photo's at my friend Cooper's house.

I began thinking about the expansion of a project. Finding a certain kind of image that is not limited to one particular place or event, but  the kind that can be found just because you become adept to seeing it.

I also realized doing this in people's homes will get me into their homes. Not in a creepy invasive way but, I have a tendency to have company at my home but not be company. So this will help me to get over that hump as well.

Plus, I love interesting, eclectic, eccentric home design.

more to come...
